VISION/PATIENCE/INSTINCTS (12/15)

  • Good vision at the line of scrimmage and in the open field
  • Patient runner with a good understanding of how to set up blocks
  • Knows how to read blocks outside-in and inside-out
  • Consistently finds cutback lanes on outside zone runs
  • Can be a little indecisive when running into congested areas

BALANCE/BODY CONTROL (15/15)

  • Exceptional contact balance — routinely bounces off defenders, shakes off arm tackles/low wraps and stays on his feet

AGILITY (12/15)

  • Smooth change of direction
  • Impressive short-area quickness for his size
  • Average explosiveness out of cuts

SPEED/BURST (10.5/15)

  • Adequate initial burst
  • Good second-level acceleration
  • Lacks breakaway top speed

POWER (8.5/10)

  • Consistently falls forward and pushes piles
  • Breaks through arm tackles and low wraps regularly
  • Good short-yardage/goal-line back
  • Consistently run legs through contact
  • Rarely brought down by one defender or first contact

ELUSIVENESS (9/10)

  • Very elusive behind the line of scrimmage and in the open field
  • Makes defenders miss with well-timed cuts and nifty spin moves
  • Very impressive ability to hurdle defenders

RECEIVING SKILLS (10/10)

  • Smooth route runner with a diverse route tree
  • Can split out and run wide receiver routes
  • Excellent hands — will high point, secure contested catches and make fingertip grabs; had just three drops on 83 career catchable passes in college, per PFF
  • Tracks the ball well downfield

PASS PROTECTION (3/5)

  • Fairly hit-or-miss — tendency to duck head into contact and lunge into defender instead of being patient; doesn’t use hands enough
  • Has the frame and strength to excel in blitz pickup

BALL SECURITY (5/5)

  • Rarely fumbles — fumbled just three times on 718 career touches

OVERALL GRADE: 85.00/100.00 — 1ST ROUND — Quality starter with Pro Bowl potential

NFL COMPARISON: Le’Veon Bell

SCHEME FIT: Scheme-versatile

DRAFT PROJECTION: Mid-late 1st round

Najee Harris is a well-rounded running back prospect with top 5-7 potential at his position. He may not have the desired breakaway speed of an elite RB1, but he makes up for his minor athletic limitation with above-average vision, power, contact balance, elusiveness, receiving ability and short-area quickness. Harris will offer an instant impact for whichever team drafts him, and he should quickly establish himself as one of the best running backs in the NFL.
