2018 NFL Draft Scouting Report: North Carolina State EDGE Bradley Chubb

Height: 6-4

Weight: 269

College: North Carolina State

Class: Senior

  • Ideal size for a 4-3 defensive end
  • Ideal length (34″ arms)

  • Pretty good ball get-off and first-step quickness
  • Seems to anticipate the snap count fairly well
  • Usually the first player to move off of the snap

  • Sets the edge consistently
  • Good at stacking blockers and holding his ground
  • Generally sheds well, but can struggle to defend runs directly at him from time to time (gets washed out of plays or sealed occasionally because of high pad level)

  • Solid flexibility around the edge
  • Can bend at relatively tight angles to flatten his path to the quarterback

POWER (13.5/15)

  • Capable of collapsing a pocket with bull rush
  • Can manhandle offensive lineman with power moves (hump, long arm, bull-rush)

TECHNIQUE (13.5/15)

  • Does a good job of stacking blocks vs. the run — knows how to use arms and knows where to place hands to control blockers
  • Can be slow to deploy initial pass-rush move at times
  • Shows ability to sequence pass-rush moves (club/rip, stutter-step/swim)
  • Flashes one-hand stab + swipe move
  • Has a nice inside swim counter-move
  • Pad level can get a little high from time to time

MOTOR (5/5)

  • Relentless pursuit defender
  • Consistently hustles to the ball when play gets to the side of him or behind him

  • Solid closing speed to finish plays in the backfield and pursue to the edge

NFL COMPARISON: Everson Griffen

GRADE: 87.00/100.00 — (EARLY-MID) 1ST ROUND — Good player with Pro Bowl potential
